Obituary Kofi Annan 1938 – 2018

The Secretary General of the Association of African Universities (AAU) on behalf of the Governing Board and African Universities, expresses our profound shock at the passing of Ghana's Nobel Peace Laureate and her finest international diplomat of all-time, Busumru Dr. Kofi Annan, which sad event occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 18, 2018 in Berne, Switzerland. He was 80.

Celebrating Academic Excellence in Africa

Ouagadougou, 7 May 2018. The very first "Higher Education Student Fair" of the African Centers of Excellence (ACEs) was held today on the campus of the Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. All the 22 ACEs financed by the World Bank and hosted by universities in 9 West and Central African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo) attended the event.

Coding Skills for Everyone

The AAU Secretariat will be running the "Coding Skills for Everyone" 2-day workshop in Accra Ghana from 15-16 August 2018. This workshop targets high school students and anyone above 13 years old. Coding literacy is becoming equivalent to reading and writing literacy. It is therefore important that everyone has some understanding of what coding entails.

Ashesi University (one of the members of the Association of African Universities) is a pioneer in blending the liberal arts and sciences in Africa – and is also recognised across the world as a model for Higher Education on the African continent. The 2nd Education Collaborative Annual Workshop will be hosted by Ashesi University, in Berekuso, Ghana from 25-29 June 2018. The focus of this workshop will be on “Facilitating Inclusive Classrooms”. We are inviting Provosts, Heads of Department, Faculty, Teachers/Facilitators, and Faculty Trainers from Higher Educational Institutions across Africa and the world to come and learn how to: make learning relatable, make learning engaging and make learning relevant and current.
