Dear Colleagues,
I would like to thank Neil; and express my sincere appreciation for the excellent summary report of the four-month on line discussion (July - October 2007). The nice moderator activity of Prof. Olusola Oyewole is also to be acknowledged. Many valuable ideas have been reflected from participants that could be useful inputs in the implementation of the AU harmonization strategy.
It is our belief that the suggestions would be considered and taken in to account for appropriate utilization. The African Union Commission, the Association of African Universities and other concerned bodies are expected to effectively manage and move the process forward.
I am very pleased to involve in the technical implementation of the harmonization process and contribute my part in the endeavor to improve the quality of African higher education.
With best Regards,
Yohannes

We are coming to the end of the AU HEP Harmonisation Strategy Discussion List, which began in July 2007. We thank you for your excellent contributions and engaging discussions, and believe that it will enhance the implementation of the AU HEP Harmonization strategy. We endorse participantsâ views that the discussion should not simply be an academic exercise, and that the ideas generated can be practically utilised to address the challenges facing higher education in Africa. We also think that there has been some very useful discussion around developing minimum standards, with good practical advice on how to move forward. Furthermore, a positive stance taken through the discussion list is the view that both âbottom-upâ and âtop-downâ approaches are necessary and complimentary in order to enhance the quality of higher education in Africa.
Your contributions have been compiled into a summary report (see attached). Please let us know whether we have mistakenly omitted any important contribution or issues that you consider as vital to this process. This is very important as we are using your ideas to shape the development of funding proposals to take the processes forward and are being guided, amongst other inputs, by the recommendations and suggestions you have made.
We look forward to your feedback
Regards
Neil
