Dear Amadou

The strategy document takes cognizance of many of the existing harmonization
processes - on a continental, regional, and national level. For example:

Continental Level
The Arusha Convention
African Council for Distance Education (ACDE)
Association of African Universities (AAU)
Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA)
International Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Africa
(ICQAHEA)
African Development Bank Strategy for Higher Education Science and
Technology

Regional Level
Southern African Development Community (SADC)
The Higher Education Quality Management Initiative of Southern Africa
(HEQMISA)
Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA)
Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l’Enseignement Supérieur (African and
Malagasy Council for Higher Education) (CAMES)
Association of Arab Universities (AARU)
Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

National Level - different countries are at different stages in tackling
issues of quality assurance and recognition of qualifications. Whilst some
countries are involved in regional collaborations, others are not – there is
great diversity.

Pages 36-55 of Part One of the strategy highlights these initiatives in more
detail.

The strategy does not make reference to this conference (as it was possibly
written prior to the announcement being made). However, your comments again
point to efforts in Africa being fragmented, and the need to organise in a
coordinated fashion.

Perhaps, as Goolam has pointed out, a continental approach to see how to
adapt the Bologna Process to African higher education could be useful.

What do others think?
Does anyone have any idea what the Lusophone universities are doing in this
regard?

Regards
Sarah

Sarah,
principaux je me demande si l' UNIVERSITE DE KINSHASA
situent-ils? Qui en sont le acteurs? , etc.
Amadou
