AAU 12th General Conference
INTRODUCTION
The General Conference is an assembly of representatives of all member institutions and meets every four years to: assess activities implemented in the preceding for years against the background of a programme and a budget approved at the previous Conference; approve he plan of activities and budget for the following four-year period; and elect the president and Executive Board of the Association. The last and eleventh General Conference was held in Cape Town, South Africa, in February 2005 on the theme, ‘Cross-border provision and the future of higher education in Africa.’

The General Conference is usually held in collaboration with member institutions. The 12th General Conference will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from 4-9 May 2009 on the theme, ‘Sustainable development in Africa: The Role of Higher Education.’

In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Secretary General of AAU is calling for nominations for the positions of President and three (3) Vice-Presidents of the Executive Board, which will become vacant in May 2009. Nominations must be received by 20 April 2009, at the latest.

Please note that only serving Executive Heads of full members of the Association in good standing, and physically present at the General Conference, are eligible for election as President or Vice-President.
