African University Day |
African University Day was instituted following a decision by the Organization of African Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU) in 1994. The objective of this annual event is to sensitize people on the role of the African university in the economic and social development of Africa. The Day is celebrated on 12th November of each year around a topic of interest to higher education.
Since its inception, African University Day has been celebrated under the themes below:
- 2005, Quality Assurance in Higher Education as a Tool for Competitiveness, Quality Products and Efficient Services
- 2004, Cross-border Provision of Higher Education in Africa: Opportunities and Challenges
- 2003, Distance Education and African Universities
- 2002, African Universities' Response to Current Emerging Issues in Africa
- 2001, Globalization and Higher Education in Africa
- 2000, African Universities and the Challenge of Knowledge Creation and Application in the Information Age
- 1999, 2000 Milestone: Preparing the African University for the 3rd Millennium
- 1998, Revitalizing Universities in Africa: Strategy for the 21st Century
- 1997, Quality Promoting in African Universities
