Job Title Project Officer , Mobilisation of Regional Capacity Initiative
Organisational Unit Research and Program

Purpose of the PostAs a member of the AAU Project management team, the Project Officer of the Mobilisation of Regional Capacity Initiative (MRCI) unit will be responsible for the development and leadership of the project for the mobilisation and coordination of regional capacity in support of African higher education revival, its contribution to the development process, poverty reduction and its role in assisting African countries achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MRCI is financed in the form of a Challenge Fund supported by the Department for International Development of the United Kingdom
Main Responsibilities
  • Participate in the identification and selection of projects to be supported with grants from the Challenge Fund, through a competitive process
  • Monitor the implementation of the Challenge Fund, supported and prepare periodic reports thereon;
  • Prepare and administer the annual budget, prepare annual reports and financial projections for review and approval by the MRCI Project Steering Committee and AAU Executive Board;
  • Any other duties or project management assignments that the Secretary-General and/or the Director of Research and Programmes may assign.
  • Profile
  • At least a Master's degree; a PhD will be an advantage
  • Familiarity with the African higher education environment and higher education regional and sub-regional bodies
  • Ability to prepare and manage project budgets and produce project reports
  • Ability to supervise programme staff and undertake special assignments
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; a good working knowledge of either French or Arabic will be a significant advantage
  • Additional Requirements
  • Good computer and Internet skills
  • At least five years experience in an academic institution. Previous experience as either Dean of a Faculty or Head of a Department or equivalent position will be a strong advantage
  • Duration The contract will be for a period of two years, subject to a probationary period of one (1) year. The appointment may be extended subject to availability of funds. The position requires extensive travel outside Ghana.

  • Annual leave of twenty-one (21) working days
  • Other benefits include a monthly post-adjustment allowance and rent subsidy
