We are now entering the second phase in the organisation of AAU’s 12th General Conference that will be held in Abuja, Nigeria from 4-9 May 2009. An announcement of this Conference appears on AAU’s website
(http://www.aau.org) . The Conference will be hosted by the University of Abuja and the University of Illorin, Nigeria and the theme of the scientific component of the Conference is: Sustainable Development in Africa: the Role of Higher Education.
An important component of the General Conference will the business session where the new leadership of the Association (the President, 3 Vice-Presidents and 11 members of the Executive Board) will be elected. In fact, this is the very first time that elections of the President and Vice-Presidents will be held. A call for nominations for the position of President and Vice-President was issued to all member institutions earlier in August 2008.
In accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, I am now calling for nominations for eleven (11) Executive Board members, which will become vacant in May 2009. Nominations must be received by
20 April 2009 , at latest. The General Conference will also elect 11 alternate Executive Board members. In that connection may I draw your attention to Article XII of the AAU Constitution, as well as to Bye-Law 8. Please note that the full Constitution and Bye-Laws can be found on AAU’s website.
Please note that only serving Executive Heads of full members of the Association in good standing, and actually present at the General Conference, are eligible for election as Executive Board members.
