The AAU, in cooperation with AfNOG and AfriNIC, organised this meeting on African Research and Education Networking on 28-29 April 2007 in Abuja, Nigeria (AfREN 2007). The meeting was held as side event of AfNOG 2007/AfriNIC-6 and was attended by about 80 participants.

The purpose of the IDRC funded meeting was to allow stakeholders of the African Research and Education Networking Community to share experiences among them and between them and fellows from other parts of the world, and to discuss important issues related to Research and Education Networks (RENs).

Main focus of the meeting was REN policies, strategic planning, country and regional updates on REN establishment processes, bandwidth consortia, technical issues, etc.
