Deputy Vice-Chancellor
The University of Cape Town is a research-led university and aims to produce graduates whose qualifications are internationally recognised, locally applicable and underpinned by values of engaged citizenship and social justice.
We are seeking to recruit a Deputy Vice-Chancellor who will provide leadership in the areas of teaching & learning and academic planning. He/she will also have executive oversight of Libraries and Information Communication Technology Services.
The position offers the opportunity to be part of a dynamic leadership team comprising the Vice-Chancellor and four Deputy Vice-Chancellors.
Key requirements:
- An outstanding academic with an established research track record and experience in a senior leadership role in an academic institution or research organisation (a Doctoral degree would generally be required)
- A demonstrated track record of managing a complex portfolio and/or running a unit of reasonable size
- A successful record of leadership and team work
- The ability to mobilise and inspire others towards shared goals
- An understanding of the operations and affairs of a university environment
- The ability to think strategically and action this thinking into plans and projects
- The ability to support the redress of historic and ongoing imbalances apropos the student and staff bodies and pursue the equity goals of the University
- Demonstrated effective communication, persuasive and interpersonal skills, as well as strategic and logical sound decision-making ability.
Desirable:
- Other strategic institutional leadership experience
- An understanding of developments in the higher education arena nationally and internationally
- Project management skills
- Experience in areas of teaching and learning, innovative course & programme design, academic development and support, quality assurance and digital scholarly resources
- Experience of the higher education environment in South Africa.
The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is negotiable. Appointment to this position is on the basis of a five-year contract, which is subject to an annual performance review against agreed objectives. The contract is renewable subject to a prescribed performance review.
